Lake County delays Olmack Road lot split after fire department flags access issues
Summary
An applicant seeking to split a 10-acre Olmack Road parcel was told fire and EMS access is constrained by tight turning radii and tree clearance; commissioners encouraged exploring accessory dwelling or residential sprinkler options and continued the case to Oct. 6 to allow the applicant to work with staff.

Alberto, the property owner at 24925 Olmack Road, asked the board to allow a lot split of his 10-acre parcel so he could build a second home for his growing family. Fire and emergency services staff reported that the existing dirt access road has pinch points and tight turning radii that would make fire-truck access difficult in its current configuration and that vertical clearance and road stabilization would need work.
A fire-department evaluator told the board, "In today's time, it'd be difficult for fire department access," noting tight turning radii and tree clearance issues. Commissioners suggested alternatives—an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) or a residential sprinkler system—so the applicant could meet safety expectations without creating a separate, saleable lot. The commission voted to continue the item to Oct. 6 to allow the applicant to explore sprinkler or ADU options and to work with staff; that continuance passed unanimously.
