Jeff Dodd, safety manager for the Jefferson County Public Utilities District, used the Port Ludlow meeting to press a simple safety message: if residents see a downed power line, call 911.
"If you see a down line, please call 911," Dodd said, explaining that 911 is the fastest way to get crews dispatched and keep the public safe. He outlined field safety steps the district enforces—flaggers, lighting and secure work sites—and said contractors working on the district's behalf are held to the same standards. Dodd encouraged customers to use the PUD customer-service line for non-emergencies and said the district sometimes routes safety reports directly to operations staff.
Dodd also announced the PUD will participate in a statewide Department of Emergency Management drill to test communications and a large-scale power-outage scenario. He said outreach channels include a customer newsletter and community presentations, and invited residents to offer suggestions for improving preparedness outreach.
