Residents tell Twisp planners legal notice was hard to find; ask for delay

Three residents asked the Planning Commission to postpone the Catholic Family Charities Twisp Family Haven hearing after they said the legal notice was not readily visible in the paper and was posted at Town Hall only about a day before the meeting.
During public comment at the Jan. 15 meeting, residents raised concerns about how the Town of Twisp posted the legal notice for the evening’s public hearing.
Lorah Super said she had spoken with Planner Thom Vetter and Deputy Clerk Davis about the notice and recommended the commission consider postponing the hearing to allow more residents to attend. Isabelle Spohn told commissioners she spent more time trying to find and understand the legal notice than reviewing the project and asked that the hearing be continued to allow the commission a better-informed decision. Paula Mackrow said she could not find the ad in the newspaper and recounted that Deputy Clerk Davis responded, "The notice was put out appropriately," which Mackrow described as rushed.
Speakers asked that future notices be posted earlier and in additional locations to reach residents who do not regularly read the newspaper. The commission voted later in the meeting to continue the hearing for up to two weeks, giving staff time to address any notice concerns before the matter returns.
