Planning Commission continues Twisp Family Haven hearing after residents raise notice concerns

The Town of Twisp Planning Commission voted Jan. 15 to continue the public hearing on Catholic Family Charities’ Twisp Family Haven planned development after several members of the public said the legal notice for the hearing was difficult to find.
Commissioner Michael Bastian moved to continue the hearing for no more than two weeks; Commissioner Miles Milliken seconded the motion. The motion passed with Commissioners Art Tasker and Anna Rose voting in favor and Commissioner Rachel Levi voting against. The hearing was continued at 8:15 p.m., and the commission set the next meeting for Jan. 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
Public commenters told the commission they had trouble locating the newspaper notice and only saw a posting at Town Hall and the post office about 24 hours before the meeting. Isabelle Spohn asked the commission to postpone the hearing so commissioners and members of the public could review materials more thoroughly; Paula Mackrow said she reviewed the paper and could not find the ad. Mackrow also recounted that Deputy Clerk Davis had told her, "The notice was put out appropriately," which Mackrow described as a rushed response.
Commissioners did not take final action on the Twisp Family Haven proposal during the Jan. 15 meeting; by voting to continue, the commission preserved the opportunity for additional public input before any final decision.
