Twisp staff: water tanks at capacity, WWTP schedule may shift pending paperwork

Director Denham reported on the town’s water and wastewater systems, telling the council that the reservoir across the river is three feet low (near full state) but that all three distribution tanks are currently at maximum capacity and an altitude valve balances pressures between them.
Denham said two wells currently have backup generation and staff are working to add backup power to the third well. The town procured pumps from Pateros and used parts from them to rebuild a backup pump that is presently operational. Several staff members are scheduled to take operator certification exams this month and next; Shane Higdon has recently passed a "Water level 1" test and is now a level-one operator in both water and sewer.
On wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) construction, Denham said a two-week Christmas shutdown had been approved but the contractor (Strider) is considering an additional winter shutdown; Denham is awaiting documentation that would outline impacts on the overall schedule. He also said he will perform an efficiency audit on the City of Chelan’s WWTP in exchange for use of their crack seal equipment.
Why it matters: the town has invested in redundancy and staffing certification to maintain water and sewer services during emergencies, but pending contractor scheduling changes to WWTP construction could affect completion timelines. Council asked for continued updates; no new contracts or capital expenditures were approved at the Jan. 14 meeting.
