Woodruff praises volunteers, reviews July 4 finances and operations

The Woodruff Town Board opened its meeting with a recap of the town’s July 4 activities and widespread praise for volunteers, vendors and the fireworks display. Chair (speaker 1) said the event “ran very well” and reported hearing “nothing but good things.”
Ali Derew presented a detailed breakdown of revenue and cash-on-hand from the event, noting that Venmo and cash boxes were part of receipts and that donations were roughly double last year; the board also noted an additional $750 contribution that will apply to event funds. “We rely a lot on donations,” Derew said during the review.
Board members discussed concession logistics after several operational issues were flagged. Members asked staff to explore new breakers and exhaust for the concession kitchen after freezers and large fridges tripped the building’s circuit during the event; they also discussed buying a second matching drink fridge because one Pepsi unit repeatedly froze. The board agreed these upgrades should be considered if revenue allows.
The board debated offering more vendor spots at future events and raising the vendor fee (this year $50) to about $75 with a small cap on the number of vendors. Members also praised the county-provided fireworks display and asked the clerk to draft a thank-you note to the commission that supported the show.
Looking ahead, the council asked staff to prepare a short list of recommended equipment purchases and to bring cost estimates to a future meeting for formal approval.
