The City Council approved updated interagency agreements with the Iowa City Community School District to support before‑and‑after‑school care and a new preschool before/after program at three elementary schools.
Recreation Supervisor Amy Erickson said the agreements formalize that each partner school will provide age‑appropriate space for the preschool program and stressed the importance of accessible bathrooms and facilities sized for younger children. Erickson said the city budgeted staffing and space to serve up to 12 preschool children in Fiscal Year 2027 while monitoring demand. Council adopted Resolution No. 2026‑95 approving the interagency agreement for programs at Borlaug, Van Allen and Wickham Elementary Schools.
Erickson said the city will evaluate enrollment and could expand services if demand grows; current enrollment did not create a waiting list in the pilot year.
