The City Council authorized staff to advertise public hearings for two separate proposed acquisitions aimed at redevelopment. For Midtown, the council approved advertising a hearing for purchase of two vacant parcels (approx. 1.02 acres combined) from SMS and Partners LLC for $420,000 plus closing costs to support Midtown Fort Myers redevelopment efforts.
Separately, the council approved advertising a hearing for acquisition of three parcels (approx. 1.61 acres) in the downtown community redevelopment area for $9,000,000 plus closing costs from SMI View LLC and US 41 Investment Land Trust. Staff said the downtown parcels are intended for redevelopment within the CRA and will come back to council at the public hearing with additional details.
Both items were advanced without presentations and will return to the council for public hearings and final votes. The Midtown hearing was set for the advertised date in the packet and the downtown item will include staff presentations at the public hearing stage.
