The Fort Myers Fire Department has earned accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, Chief Tracy McMillian told the City Council Monday.
"Out of the 27,000 plus fire departments in our nation, there's only 312 that are accredited," Chief Tracy McMillian said during his presentation, thanking staff and singling out accreditation manager Dave Jacobs for leading the effort. The chief said accreditation recognizes agencies that are community‑oriented, data‑driven and outcome focused.
Council members presented the department with the Accredited Agency Award and praised the work of firefighters and support staff. City leaders said the accreditation joins existing accreditations for the police and public works departments and noted emergency management seeks accreditation next.
Next steps: the award was ceremonial; staff said the accreditation validates training and preparedness but did not require new council action.
