Hononegah board grants probationary recognition to Turning Point USA club after student requests and outside correspondence

Board President Dave Kurlinkus and trustees approved provisional recognition of a student-organized Turning Point USA club on Nov. 19, 2025, with a probationary status beginning the second semester of the 2025–26 school year. The motion to approve Club America TPUSA as a G‑Level club carried with a unanimous roll call of the five voting trustees present: Ballard, Flohr, Geddeis, Haab and Kurlinkus.
Two Hononegah students spoke during public comment in support of the club. Student Kennlee Pitterle addressed the board about her effort to organize the club, and Addie Butz read a letter on behalf of Logan Schultz, a student who would serve as treasurer. Administration reiterated that clubs seeking district recognition must meet established district criteria but noted that groups not formally recognized by Hononegah may still meet independently. The board also noted receipt of correspondence: an email from Brenda Fisher and letters from Senators Andrew Chesney and Dave Syverson and Representatives Joe Sosnowski and John Cabello regarding Turning Point USA.
