On March 24 the Cayuga County Legislature approved a slate of public‑safety personnel actions and procurement for the Sheriff’s Office.
Resolutions authorized filling a vacant Licensed Practical Nurse (custody division), two custody deputy vacancies, one detective vacancy (and backfills), and seasonal Marine Patrol personnel (up to seven navigational assistants and five part‑time deputies). The Legislature also authorized purchase and equipping of two new marked patrol vehicles at a unit cost of $66,472.23 (total $132,944.46), to replace high‑mileage vehicles. Additionally, the Chair and Sheriff were authorized to execute an amendment to the incarcerated individuals’ telephone services agreement to comply with the FCC’s Nov. 6, 2025 Final Report and Order.
Motions for these measures were moved and seconded and recorded 'all in favor.' The resolutions direct the Finance Director to make accounting entries where applicable and specify that some navigation unit wages are reimbursable by the State at approximately 50%.
