Cayuga County Health Department expands animal‑control contracts, adds euthanasia and specimen services

The Cayuga County Health Department received legislative authorization March 24 to expand and amend contracts supporting rabies control and animal boarding.
Resolution 105‑26 amended an earlier contract with Canine Cove to add euthanasia services; the resolution lists vendor rates including $75 for pickup/transport, $50 per day boarding, and $150 per animal for euthanasia. The Legislature also authorized separate contracts with two veterinarians—Annette Otis, DVM and Paula Ospina, DVM—for specimen preparation and euthanasia services through Dec. 31, 2026. The Otis contract lists specimen preparation at $100 and transportation at $75; Ospina’s contract lists specimen prep $100, cat euthanasia $30 and dog euthanasia $30–$70 depending on size.
Payments for the services were charged to Health Department account A40104‑54123 in the 2026 budget. Motions for the resolutions were moved, seconded and recorded as passed 'all in favor.'
