Assigned Counsel reports 57 February arraignments; ILS grant covered attorney costs

Lloyd Hoskins, representing the Assigned Counsel office, reported that the Centralized Arraignment Program handled 57 arraignments in February, of which 24 were for town and village courts and 33 were for Auburn City Court. He said attorney costs associated with CAP for February were $9,670 and were paid from an Indigent Legal Services (ILS) grant.
Hoskins provided additional detail: 29 defendants (51%) were released on ROR and 28 (49%) were held on bail or for other reasons; 19 arraignments (33%) were brought on arrest or bench warrants; 16 orders of protection were issued; Counsel at First Appearance totals included 69 in Auburn City Court and 18 in town/village courts with associated attorney costs of $10,044 paid from ILS. He also said two mandated ILS reports (ILS-195 and the Performance Measures Progress report) were submitted before the April 1 deadline.
