Dr. Jessica Sonntag told trustees the administration has begun an all‑staff read and community discussion of The Digital Delusion by Jared Conney Horvath following a teachers’ institute on April 10. As part of that process, she said the district will consider limiting Chromebook use at home and in classrooms. "HBR will be looking at reducing the use of Chromebooks at home and in the classrooms due to studies showing the harm on students' learning, attention, memory and critical thinking when overused or poorly implemented," Dr. Sonntag said.
Board members did not record a motion or vote on a specific Chromebook policy at the April 15 meeting; the discussion was presented as a planning step and administrators indicated further conversation and possible staff and community engagement would follow.
