The Aspen City Council spent part of its June 2 session interviewing three candidates for the Planning & Zoning Commission. Diana Yushkes, an interior designer with a background in environmental design, said civic engagement motivates her application and that her training helps her consider projects in context: "my name is Diana Yushkes" and she said she can "say no if I really strongly think it's a no." She emphasized remaining calm under pressure and a holistic approach to design.
Max, who works at the Maroon Creek Club and said he has lived in the valley since 2006, told council he wants to return to community service and that his job experience has taught him to say no tactfully. He disclosed a summer employment relationship and the mayor said the city attorney does not see undue influence. Richard Zhengyue Lai introduced an academic and professional record in architecture and planning, citing prior service on Aspen commissions and noting he helped establish the pedestrian mall as part of his graduate work: "My name is Richard Zhengyue Lai." Council thanked each candidate and said appointments would be decided at a later meeting after review.
