Steuben Legislature approves grants, bridge transfers and several intermunicipal agreements

The Steuben County Legislature approved a suite of grants, appropriations and intermunicipal agreements on April 27 covering tourism, public safety, conservation and transportation.
Destination Development grants totaling $100,000 from Room Tax Reserve funds were approved for five projects: Corning Public Art Program ($11,000), Steuben County Agricultural Society ($25,000), YMCA Watson Woods ($28,000), Corning Gaffer District ($15,000) and Glenn H. Curtis Museum ($21,000). The resolution passed with recorded votes (Yes 6628; Abstain 571).
The Legislature also authorized Law Enforcement Grant awards: $10,000 to the Village of Bath for 17 Glock 45 pistols with optics, and $9,337.39 to the Village of Wayland for MDTs, scanners, radar and an AED. The Steuben County Soil & Water Conservation District received a $20,000 appropriation from the contingent fund for a GPS survey system.
Grant budget adjustments were adopted for the FY2023 Domestic Terrorism Prevention Grant ($172,413) moving consultant funds into mileage and training, and for the FY23 Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant shifting $60,000 into consultant fees. On transportation, the Legislature authorized transfers of $318,000 for bridge projects and created the Red Spring Run Bridge capital project with $1,291,834.44 appropriated from the Road Fund Balance; it also approved initial funding actions related to the Bridge NY Newcomb Road replacement (PIN 6755.84).
