The Steuben County Legislature voted on April 27 to rescind Local Law No. Two of 1971, which established a County Environmental Management Council. Staff and sponsors said the council has been inactive for years and that environmental oversight responsibilities have been absorbed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Steuben County Soil & Water Conservation District.
County Manager Wheeler explained the council had not met during his 18 years with the county and that advisory and regulatory functions are now routinely handled by other agencies and the Legislature’s Agriculture, Industry & Planning Committee. The resolution was presented and adopted; certified copies will be forwarded to the County Manager for records.
