Dominic briefed the council that the transportation element inventories existing roads, traffic volumes and projected needs and feeds the six-year Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) used to request county and state funds for road projects. He said the TIP is reviewed annually and projects are prioritized on the capital facilities list.
Members and a resident noted increased bus ridership at some stops and asked staff to consider transit amenities. "I noticed ... there's been an uptake on people using the bus," a resident said, and commissioners discussed whether bus shelters and pedestrian improvements should be added to the capital list to improve visibility and safety.
Dominic said transit and multimodal language is a new addition to the plan and recommended commissioners review the proposed policies and goals in the draft, particularly page references staff provided. He urged members to identify projects they want carried forward into the TIP so they can be considered for funding.
