Consultant reports drafts for land use, environment and housing chapters; commission set homework

Consultant Larry Levine told the planning commission the project team has completed and turned in drafts of three core chapters of Rainier’s comprehensive plan — land use, environment and housing — and reviewed what remains to meet state requirements and the grant timeline. “Then we have completed and turned in drafts for chapters 2, 3, and 4, which are land use, environment, and housing,” Levine said while outlining the work completed to date.
Levine said recent legislative changes have added substantial required code updates and that the team is prioritizing required elements (critical areas, housing definitions and code amendments) before optional additions. Commissioners were asked to read the goals and policies in the draft chapters and return feedback at the next meeting; staff confirmed the next planning commission meeting was scheduled for April 15.
