Coralville updates: Forevergreen Road groundbreaking, roundabout nearing opening and railroad crossing repair planned

City Administrator Kelly Hayworth announced a groundbreaking for Forevergreen Road Extension Phase One scheduled for July 29 at 3 p.m. with the City of North Liberty. City Engineer Scott Larson said construction is underway, with clearing and debris processing underway and the prime contractor (PCI) progressing on both ends of the project.
Larson reported the Heartland Drive and Commerce Drive roundabout has pavement and sidewalks completed, splitter islands and brick paver treatments in place, and that “the earliest possible opening date is set for Friday, August 7th.” He said the contractor will perform final items including sod and temporary street lighting and that an interim opening will initially allow east, west and south legs to reestablish important connections, including access to Costco. Larson also described a cooperative repair of the Forevergreen Road railroad crossing with Iowa DOT Office of Rail using federal funds; the crossing and adjacent trail will be closed for about 1.5–2 weeks to complete the work and the city aims to finish before the start of school in late August.
