Ottawa County renews one-year service contract for Register of Deeds map-room printer

The Ottawa County Board of County Commissioners voted to renew a one-year service contract with Consolidated Printing for the Register of Deeds map-room printer. Shelby Walker, Register of Deeds, presented three vendor quotes and recommended maintaining the existing service arrangement rather than purchasing a new copier.
Walker told the Commission the three bids—Consolidated Printing, imageQUEST and Central Office Supply—could not be compared "apples to apples" because of differences between the machines, and that there was no trade-in value for the current county-owned unit. Commissioner Scott Mortimer confirmed money was available in the Register of Deeds Technology fund. The board’s motion to renew the contract passed 3-0; the motion was made by Commissioner Duane Morris and seconded by Commissioner Carla Grund.
The Commissioners discussed what would happen if the county stopped the contract and used the printer until it failed; Walker explained that the existing contract covers maintenance and supplies. The Commission’s consensus was to retain contracted maintenance for continuity of service.
