Public works moves to hire noxious-weed worker; commissioners plan road mowing and capital improvements

Chris Smith, Ottawa County Public Works Director, reported he completed interviews and is moving to hire for the open Noxious Weed position. Smith told commissioners the new hire would work in the office until required certification courses are completed and said he was not recommending continued contractor use "due to cost and liability." Commissioner Carla Grund said she preferred incurring overtime so current staff benefit and gain experience.
Commissioner Scott Mortimer asked that ditches be mowed ahead of Del-Fest. Grund raised a possible road vacation on the Dickinson County line between Frontier and Granite Roads and asked the County Clerk to assist with the process. Grund also requested that she and Smith prepare a capital improvement plan for Road and Bridge to guide future spending and maintenance priorities.
