Marie Myers Shearing, speaking for the county Planning Department, told the committee the department will participate in a joint Transit Operations procurement with Chemung County, Corning and Steuben County Transit. "This would be with Chemung County, Corning and the Steuben County Transit," Myers Shearing said. The committee voted to authorize the department to participate.
Myers Shearing also described plans to issue an RFP for a replacement transit shelter near the Dana Lyons building; the prior shelter is past its life expectancy and had been vandalized. She said the county will include solar lighting in the shelter design and expects to use ATC grants and federal funds to pay for the structure (not necessarily construction). Robert Nichols moved to issue the RFP and the motion passed 5-0.
Committee members asked logistical questions about placement and funding; the Planning Department and county staff said federal funds are available for the project and the RFP will focus on procurement of the shelter structure.
