Council approves stone blocks to slow traffic in roundabout

The Anamosa City Council approved a proposal to place four stone blocks in the center of the roundabout at Old Dubuque Road and Shane Brown Street to slow motor vehicle traffic.
Shane Brownstreet, the city’s superintendent, told the council he had consulted state and engineering contacts and that the roundabout is the city’s to modify. He said Ditmeyers quoted about $260 per stone block and recommended four blocks "for now to get them stopped, and then we'll fix the grass." A downtown property owner, Tom Bergen, cautioned the council that state or federal visibility guidelines might apply and urged the city to verify compliance before installing permanent features.
Councilmember John moved to purchase and install four stone blocks; Councilmember Damien seconded and the motion carried following a roll-call voice vote. The council directed staff to proceed with purchase and placement at staff discretion.
