Public health director Lisa Tobin presented an overview of the Council on Aging and senior center services to the Lynn City Council, and introduced Dr. Janaia Tucker as the new senior center director.
Tobin explained the state funding formula ($16 per person age 60 and older based on the 2020 census) will yield approximately $312,704 for Lynn this fiscal year, delivered in installments; the city contributes roughly $255,000 from general funds toward senior center salaries. Tobin and Dr. Tucker highlighted recent grants, free breakfast and lunch for seniors, transportation services, volunteer programs and the need to replace an out-of-service van.
Councilors praised staff and volunteers and urged residents to complete the U.S. Census because funding is census-dependent. Dr. Tucker said she was "born and raised in Lynn" and expressed enthusiasm for expanding programming and grant-seeking.
