Board approves $451,450 geotechnical study for Forks Middle School site

The Quillayute Valley School District board on Aug. 26 approved a contract with Associated Earth Sciences, Inc. to perform geotechnical investigations for the Spartan ball fields tied to the Forks Middle School replacement project. Chair called for a motion and the board voted to authorize the study.
Superintendent Diana said the work will include deep core samples and engineering analysis. “And, the total estimate is $451,450 dollars, and it's based on, of course, state, charging for engineering services,” she said. Board members noted the investigation will go deep enough to characterize subsurface conditions before design proceeds, with comments that samples may be taken down roughly 250 feet.
The study was presented as a required step for the bond-funded replacement project; the motion to approve was made and seconded during the meeting and the board recorded the item as passed. The contract authorization is intended to inform design, permitting and final cost estimates for the proposed middle school rebuild.
