Surveyor presents revisions to Allen County floodplain ordinance to expand county oversight

Allen County Surveyor Mike Fruchey presented proposed revisions to Allen County Code Title 21 to bring floodplain management for Grabill, Monroeville, Huntertown and Leo-Cedarville under county oversight during the board's May 1 session. Fruchey said the change would apply countywide except for Fort Wayne and New Haven, and he reported he was "in talks with the New Haven mayor to bring it under county supervision as well." The board approved the ordinance revisions 3-0 on a motion by Commissioner Therese M. Brown, seconded by Commissioner Ronald W. Turpin.
Fruchey framed the revisions as a countywide coordination step to standardize floodplain oversight across smaller communities. Commissioners did not request additional study and the motion carried unanimously. The change will be reflected in Allen County Code Title 21 and next procedural steps were recorded as approval on May 1, 2026.
