Curriculum Director Hope McBrain told the Hillsboro Community Unit School District #3 Curriculum Committee on April 8 that ongoing technical issues with the district's all-digital 6–8 social studies curriculum are disrupting instruction. She said teachers have reported platform instability and Chromebook-related problems and recommended a return to physical textbooks, arguing they would improve consistency and usability for classrooms.
"Recommending hardback books for consistency and usability," McBrain said during the committee meeting. The committee did not record a formal motion or vote on the item during this session; the discussion focused on teacher preferences and operational challenges with digital delivery. The issue will likely move to a future agenda item for formal action if the board seeks to adopt a purchase plan.
