Highway Department reports staffing changes, phone-tree and 2027 budget preparations

Highway Commissioner Chad Scheinoha provided an operational report on maintenance and construction activities and staffing levels at the June 4 committee meeting. He told the committee the department has been preparing for the 2027 budget cycle and outlined planned projects in the coming year.
Commissioner Scheinoha reported the department converted its main phone line to a phone tree so callers can reach the correct staff member; he noted this change will be important during Highway Office Coordinator Lexie Lau’s upcoming maternity leave. Superintendent Spencer Loebel departed the meeting at 3:55 p.m. Scheinoha also briefed the committee on project schedules including USH and State Trunk Highways 151/55, STH 32/57 resurfacing, USH 10 resurfacing, and County Trunk Highway projects B, M, D (pulverizing and paving), E (culvert project) and HH.
