Lancaster County to vote July 15 on Human Services Block Grant plan after public hearing

Lancaster County Administrator and Chief Clerk Lawrence M. George presented the county's Human Services Block Grant Plan for 2026'027 at the Board of County Commissioners' work session on July 14. George said the plan had been presented at a public meeting on July 9 and that the Board is scheduled to vote on the plan at its July 15 commissioners' meeting; if approved, the plan will be submitted to the state.
Commissioner Ray D'Agostino opened a public hearing on the plan at 10:13 a.m. Reporter Tom Lisi asked staff follow-up questions about funding. Retired psychologist and volunteer Perry Hazeltine warned that anticipated federal funding cuts, combined with high median rental costs and a very low vacancy rate, are already increasing homelessness. Hazeltine told the Board, "solutions are available to address the housing issue; however, funding is insufficient." The hearing closed at 10:19 a.m.
