The Washtucna School District board voted by voice to appoint Allen Verdell to a board seat after a motion was made and seconded.
"I move with appointee Allen Verdell for the board member," said the board member who made the motion. The motion was seconded and, after a voice vote, the motion carried.
Immediately following the appointment process, Ellen Fadel took the oath of office for Director position number 2. In her oath she said, "I, Ellen Fadel, I, Ellen Fadel, do solemnly swear or affirm that I am a citizen of the United States and state of Washington ... that I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of this office to the best of my ability." Board staff explained the new director must sign paperwork; one copy will be sent to the auditor and the district will retain a copy. The board discussed notarization and staff said the superintendent can complete that step now.
The appointment and swearing-in were handled as routine administrative business; the board did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript and approved the motion by voice vote. No substantive policy change accompanied the appointment.
