The Perry City Council adopted a resolution to implement a uniform, higher preemployment screening process for full-time employees. Chair introduced the resolution and a motion passed after discussion; staff said the policy was reviewed by the city's employment lawyer and changes from that review were incorporated into the proposal.
A staff member explained the screening program came from the safety committee and will standardize processes such as preemployment physicals and drug screens across departments. "It's only for full time employees because it is very costly to do," the staff member said, noting the city had not previously maintained a uniform program. The staff member said TrueNorth has administered similar programs for other cities and the policy aims to reduce workplace injuries and identify health conditions prior to hiring.
