Council members asked whether the dog would have health insurance and whether the department planned to breed the animal. The officer said local veterinary support at cost was available and that pet insurance is an option; he added the department does not plan to breed the dog and did not confirm neutering status.
Council discussion also covered union expectations about response times and practical placement of the handler; the officer said no living-distance requirement is written in department policy and that operational leads and project coordination are in place as the unit and equipment are readied.
