"We do have before you request to do a declaration of state of emergency for this snow event that's gonna unfolding probably now as we are meeting tonight and overnight tonight into tomorrow," Council member Randy Webster told colleagues, adding that low temperatures and potential refreeze could extend hazardous conditions. Webster said county stormwater and public safety crews were preparing and that plans were in place to respond.
The chair asked for and received unanimous approval; the clerk recorded the vote and the chair said the ordinance would take effect at 07:00. Council members were urged throughout the discussion to exercise caution given unpredictability in accumulation estimates and the potential for multiple-day impacts from melt-refreeze cycles.
The council encouraged residents to monitor county communications and social media for schedule changes to meetings and services during the weather event.
