Berne plans August tree removals at girls softball diamond, will replant after season

The Berne Tree Board reviewed a site visit at the girls softball diamond and agreed to remove several trees after the season and replant nearby openings.
The chair reported that he and Mark surveyed the diamond and identified three or four trees to be taken down in August, after the ball season ends, with replanting planned a month or so later. The board discussed options to offset lost trees and possible replacement locations in an open area adjacent to the fields.
Members noted some trees at adjacent streets and park areas also need trimming or assessment for long-term health. Staff will incorporate the softball-diamond removals into the maintenance and replanting schedule and share specifics on species and timing with the board.
