Board approves CMBA contract to design demolition of old law enforcement center

Kenny Smith of Building Services told the board the agenda item had been “a long time coming” and described prior coordination with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and county staff to clear regulatory steps. Terry Glade of CMBA Architects said pre-bid design, public notices and hearings would likely take a couple of months and that demolition of heavily reinforced concrete could take roughly three months; he added that out-of-state contractors had already expressed interest. The board approved the CMBA contract by unanimous vote.
Board members asked for schedule clarity and were told the immediate next steps are for CMBA to draft plans, the board to approve plans and specifications, and then the county to proceed with bidding and contracting for demolition. The motion to approve the CMBA architectural-services contract passed unanimously.
