The Woodbury County Board on a split vote approved a service agreement to engage Tri State Nursing for after-hours drug screening for workplace incidents. Melissa Thomas, human resources, told the board the contract is intended so that "Tri State Nursing with our after hours, drug screening that we would need to do in case of an accident or or some type of other situation," noting employees otherwise must go to the emergency room.
A board member expressed concern about the vendor. "I've I've worked with this company and had a lot of bad outcomes," the member said during discussion. Despite that objection, a motion to approve the agreement (moved by Benjures and seconded by Nelson) passed 4-1. The meeting record shows a single dissent; the board did not place additional conditions on the contract during the public discussion.
Thomas said the contract should save staff time by having the vendor "come to us," and that the agreement had been approved by the assistant county attorney. The board did not discuss specific contract dollar amounts in the public segments of the meeting.
