Van Buren County supervisors recommend 3% pay increases for elected officials

"On motion by Meek, seconded by House, the recommended FY2027 compensation schedule for the elected officials was proposed as follows," the minutes state, listing the proposed FY2027 salaries for each office.
The recommended schedule in the board's minutes shows the following FY2026-to-FY2027 adjustments: Board of Supervisors from $34,296 to $35,325 (chair additional from $1,163 to $1,197); Sheriff from $100,000 to $103,000; Auditor from $68,731 to $70,793; Treasurer from $60,760 to $62,583; Recorder from $61,286 to $63,125; and Attorney from $60,369 to $62,180. The board cited reviews under Iowa Code sections 331.905(7) and 331.907(1) comparing compensation in counties with similar taxable valuations and regional salary data during its budget work session. On the motion, Supervisor Meek moved, Supervisor House seconded, and the motion carried with three ayes.
