DNR recommends repeal of Van Buren County floodplain ordinance; board to consider model ordinance on Feb. 23

County Auditor Lisa Plecker told the board that she, Supervisor Meek and County Assessor Dixie Saunders met with Jason Conn, NFIP State Coordinator from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, on Jan. 13 to review the county's existing floodplain ordinance (Ordinance #2015-1). Conn advised that changes over the last decade mean the county should repeal Ordinance #2015-1 and adopt the DNR's model floodplain ordinance; the Board reviewed a draft of that model ordinance and tabled action until the Feb. 23 meeting, when a possible first reading may occur.
The minutes record the DNR recommendation and the board's decision to delay formal action to allow additional review.
