Sheriff proposes garage expansion for countywide radio system; commissioners approve local builder and site work

Sheriff Larry "Ray" Newton and Chief Deputy Ben Schwartz presented multiple quotes for a garage expansion to accommodate IT work and the planned countywide radio system. Quotes ranged widely: local builders submitted bids around $105,000–$176,000 (Muhlenkamp Building with metal roof at $107,350 was selected), while Motorola provided more expensive factory options. The board approved Muhlenkamp's quote by unanimous vote.
Commissioners also approved All Circuit electrical option #2 ($35,379.17) for running power to the expansion, accepted a KBL Trucking quote for asphalt/grinding work ($54,785), and voted for the Jay County Redevelopment Commission to cover 100% of the project cost. Monroe said the fence and antenna security would need immediate attention once equipment is installed.
