County signals support to pair with Elkton sewer-and-street reconstruction; asks for final cost figures

Jeff McCormick of SPN Helms Engineering briefed the commission on Elkton’s multi-phase utility improvement project and the county portion of a proposed phase 4 tie-in.
McCormick said the combined project would require about 2,400 tons of asphalt, with "1,700 of it is the City of Elkton's" portion and "656 ton of it would be the county portion of it." He also reported roughly 909 square yards of concrete surfacing the county would shoulder for intersection work. Construction timing cited in the presentation is targeted for 2027–2028 depending on final design and budget approvals.
Commissioners said they preferred to partner so the roadway is reconstructed consistently rather than doing piecemeal work. The commission gave staff and the engineer consensus to move forward to finalize designs and cost estimates for consideration during county budget hearings later in June.
