Commissioner discussion praised the applicant pool’s depth and urged continued public involvement even for those not appointed. Commissioner Vanderwall (speaking as a committee member) thanked applicants for volunteering and noted meetings will be open to the public.
The commission first moved and approved the appointment of Don Griff; commissioners cited his contributions at a recent Sioux Valley Electric meeting as evidence of relevant experience. Alan Jones was subsequently nominated, seconded and approved by voice vote; commissioners noted his experience in grid development and planning and zoning as qualifications.
County development staff said the subcommittee will include an industry representative (Xcel Energy), township officials from the seven affected townships, planning commission representation, and two public members selected by the commission. Staff also said documents and meeting notices will be posted on the county website and that meetings will be public.
