Sheriff Russell Thornton told the commission Aug. 25 that the sheriff’s office has consolidated and updated law-enforcement policy books for patrol, the jail and dispatch, saying the county had not had consolidated, current policies for some time. Thornton said he used guidance from KCAMP and hired his wife's company to prepare the manuals and that he consulted County Attorney Jeff Ebel about the arrangement.
Thornton introduced Ashley Gonzalez as a new deputy and County Clerk Tammi Cox administered the oath. The meeting record shows a separate executive-session motion later in the agenda related to non‑elected personnel; no action resulted from that executive session.
