Council advances housekeeping amendment to chapter 11 business-tax rules on first reading

Elizabeth Eesa, assistant development services director, presented a text amendment to chapter 11 of the town code to remove local business-tax registration requirements that no longer align with chapter 205 of the Florida Statutes.
Eesa said the provisions targeted businesses operating in town without a permanent local location and state-licensed professionals; staff is proposing cleanup language to section 11-16 to reflect changes in state law. "These provisions were originally intended to require registration and administrative review for businesses operating within the town without a permanent local location," she said. Council placed the ordinance on first reading and voted in favor to move it forward.
Why it matters: the amendment brings the town code into alignment with state statute and removes obsolete administrative requirements for some out-of-town and state-licensed businesses.
