Resident urges council to remove dead arborvitae near new duplexes, calling them a fire hazard

During public comment at the Aug. 3 Benton City Council meeting, a resident raised a safety concern about dead landscaping near a recent duplex development, saying the dead shrubs were a potential fire hazard and asking the city to inspect them.
"There's 2 rows of arborvitae about 5 foot tall, I would say, maybe a little bit taller. All dead, all fire hazard," the resident said. Council acknowledged the concern and the presiding officer said staff would look into it and follow up with an inspection.
The council thanked the speaker for bringing the issue to their attention and invited any other resident with similar concerns to report locations to the city so staff can evaluate hazards across the community.
