Cass County approves updated agreement to house federal detainees; per-diem rises to about $97

A representative of the Cass County Sheriff's Office described the contract update as a rate change, saying, "This is just an updated contract that renewed our rates from $75 a day to $97 and some change." The representative stated the agreement otherwise remains the same.
Commissioners asked whether the county expects to accept more federal detainees under the new terms and whether the higher per-diem would affect county budgeting. The Sheriff's representative said no additional detainees were expected at this time and indicated the county currently has detainee costs above what was budgeted.
With no further discussion, the commission recorded a vote of "2 votes for 0 against" and the Chair declared Resolution 26-74 passed, approving the intergovernmental agreement and new per-diem. The commission opened the public comment period; no members of the public spoke.
