The Solano County Board of Supervisors voted to recognize August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month. Leanne Peck of the Department of Child Support Services outlined the department’s outreach and a backpack program for students.
"So this year we're happy to announce we stuffed 200 backpacks filled with school supplies," Peck said, adding that 150 backpacks were delivered to the Solano County Office of Education for Foster and Youth Services and 50 went to the Family Justice Center.
Akan Walker of the Solano County Office of Education said the backpacks help students facing housing insecurity: "We have over close to 2,000 students across the county experiencing housing insecurity," he said, adding that the backpacks and partner efforts are intended to ease immediate school-start costs for affected families.
The Board thanked department staff and community partners for the volunteer and donation work; the proclamation passed by unanimous procedural motion during the consent/ceremonial portion of the meeting.
