Solano County 2024 crop report: total ag value slips to $437.94 million; almonds top the list

Agricultural Commissioner Ed King presented Solano County’s 75th annual Crop and Livestock Report and said the county’s 2024 gross agricultural production value was $437,938,000 — the second-highest total on record and about $22.4 million below 2023.
"We have preliminarily placed the total contribution of ag to the local economy at better than $1,600,000,000 annually," King said, summarizing broader economic impact while noting the crop report figures are gross values that do not reflect returns to growers.
King outlined the top crops: almonds at $78,351,000 (a near 80% increase from 2023), processing tomatoes at $55,800,000, and cattle and calves at $48,861,000. He attributed almond gains to increased acreage coming into production and higher prices after a smaller 2023 crop statewide.
Commission staff described program work that supports the sector: the office issued over 700 export certificates in 2024, inspected thousands of plant shipments, monitored more than 2,300 pest traps and executed pest quarantines and eradication work as needed. Board members asked about disposal and biomass options for removed orchards and vineyards; staff said trees can be chipped and that vineyard cleanup presents additional challenges because of trellising and wire.
