The board approved renewal of the transportation services agreement with HopSkipDrive Inc. to provide specialized transportation for eligible students beginning July 1, 2027. The chair summarized the vendor's role serving students whose needs cannot be met by traditional routes, including students experiencing homelessness under the McKinney-Vento Act. "HopSkipDrive provides safe, flexible transportation services for students whose transportation needs cannot be met through the district's traditional transportation program," the chair said.
Trustees pressed for pricing details. Trustee Thompson asked whether the base fare ($53) and minimum trip fee ($54) represented a combined charge and raised whether additional per-ride add-ons (for dash-cam recordings or forward-facing car seats) apply per trip. The director of transportation (Kat) came to the podium and answered that some optional items, like dash-cam fees and car-seat charges, are added where relevant and the district does not currently have students requiring car seats. After questions, the motion to renew the agreement carried.
