Solano County's agricultural production reached a record $476,209,000 in gross value for 2025, Agricultural Commissioner Ed King told the Board of Supervisors on Aug. 4. King said the county posted a roughly $38 million increase over 2024, with almonds becoming the county's top crop (exceeding $100 million) and cattle value rising to about $65.4 million.
King highlighted shifts in commodity mix — fruit and nuts account for a larger share of total value, vegetable production remains steady, and field/forage has declined relative to other sectors. He also warned of pest concerns: the department continues eradication efforts for the glassy‑winged sharpshooter in Vacaville's Browns Valley neighborhood and is watching New World screwworm activity nationally. King said staff had intercepted infested shipments tied to a nursery and recovered most of the affected vines, and that enhanced monitoring and outreach are underway.
On enforcement, King said new state legislation grants ag commissioners civil‑penalty authority to pursue noncooperative property owners and that weights‑and‑measures inspections found pricing overcharges on about 2.8% of items inspected. Board members praised staff surveillance work and requested follow‑up reporting on repeat overchargers and continued pest mitigation.
